No mains gas boiler work — oil heating, heat pumps, and general plumbing only.

Why people use us

  • Skip the £60–100 callout fee just to get a diagnosis
  • No appointment needed — send it whenever suits you
  • Oil boiler, heat pump AND plumbing expertise under one roof
  • Honest answer on whether you need a site visit at all
What we cover

Three areas. One specialist.

Rural oil heating, modern heat pumps, and everyday plumbing problems all suffer from the same issue: too few engineers, too long a wait. That's the gap we fill — remotely, fast.

🛢️

Oil Boiler Diagnostics

For homes off the gas grid relying on oil-fired heating and hot water.

  • Boiler won't fire or keeps cutting out
  • Sooty burn, smoke, or kerosene smell
  • No heat or no hot water
  • Noisy pump, leaks, or pressure faults
  • Pre-winter health check talk-through
🌡️

Heat Pump Diagnostics

Air-to-water and air-to-air systems. F-Gas registered, so we can speak to refrigerant-side faults most heating engineers can't.

  • Error codes and fault flashes explained
  • Low efficiency or rising running costs
  • Icing, noise, or short-cycling
  • Refrigerant-related fault triage
  • Understanding a new install's settings
🔧

General Plumbing

Everyday plumbing issues around the home, diagnosed before you pay for a callout.

  • Leaking pipes, taps, or joints
  • Blocked or slow-draining sinks
  • Running or noisy toilet cisterns
  • Low or inconsistent water pressure
  • Dripping or faulty valves
  • Unvented cylinder faults (G3 registered)
Please note: we do not work on mains gas boilers or appliances — that requires a Gas Safe registered engineer. We cover oil-fired heating, heat pumps, and general plumbing.
How it works

Three steps to an answer

1

Submit & pay online

Fill in the form and pay securely upfront. No appointment to book — send it whenever suits you.

2

Show us the problem

Send a short video of the fault happening, plus photos of the data plate (model & serial number) and any error code on display — the more we can see, the better the answer.

3

Get your action plan

We reply with a written assessment: what's likely wrong where it's possible to tell remotely, what you can safely check or do yourself, and exactly what to say if you need an on-site engineer. If it genuinely can't be pinned down from what you've sent, we'll tell you clearly rather than guess.

Credentials

Qualified. Registered. Accountable.

You're speaking to a properly certified engineer, not a call centre.

NAPIT CPS Registered

Certified under NAPIT's Competent Person Scheme for oil heating installation and servicing work.

F-Gas Registered

Qualified to handle refrigerant-related work, giving genuine expertise on heat pump faults — not just guesswork.

G3 Unvented Registered

Qualified to work on unvented hot water cylinders, so cylinder faults get a properly informed diagnosis too.

Years On the Tools

Hands-on experience diagnosing real faults on real systems, not a script — advice grounded in what actually goes wrong.

FAQ

Good to know

Is this instead of an engineer visiting my home?

Sometimes — plenty of faults are a simple reset, a pressure top-up, or a setting change you can do yourself once we've talked you through it. Where a physical repair or a legal safety check is needed, we'll tell you clearly and you'll know exactly what to ask for, saving you a wasted or overpriced callout.

Do you cover mains gas boilers?

No. We cover oil-fired heating, heat pumps, and general plumbing. For gas appliances you'll need a Gas Safe registered engineer.

What if the fault can't be identified remotely?

Some faults genuinely need hands-on inspection to pin down. Where that's the case, we'll tell you clearly rather than guess, and explain what would help next — whether that's more photos, a specific test to run, or an on-site engineer. You still get a useful answer, just not always a definitive one.

What areas do you cover?

The video review works anywhere with an internet connection — you don't need to be near us for a remote diagnosis.

Scope, limitations & terms

What this service can and can't do, and what's expected of you if you carry out any DIY work based on our assessment.

What we can do

  • Identify likely causes of common faults from clear video/photo evidence and your description
  • Explain, in plain terms, what's probably wrong and why
  • Suggest safe, straightforward checks or fixes you can reasonably carry out yourself
  • Tell you honestly when a fault needs a hands-on, on-site investigation
  • Give you the right questions to ask — and red flags to avoid — if you do call out a local engineer

What we can't do

  • Physically test, dismantle, or inspect your system
  • Take pressure, temperature, gas/refrigerant, or electrical readings on-site
  • Guarantee a fault has only one cause — video and photos can miss things a hands-on inspection would catch
  • Replace a legally required inspection, such as warranty work, insurance claims, landlord safety certificates, or building regulations sign-off
  • Diagnose or advise on mains gas appliances — see below

Our registrations — and their limits

  • NAPIT CPS (registration 33770) — oil-fired boilers and oil heating systems
  • F-Gas (REF1019208) — heat pump refrigerant-handling work
  • G3 — unvented hot water cylinder systems

We are not Gas Safe registered. If your issue involves a mains gas boiler or appliance, you must use a Gas Safe registered engineer — we cannot legally advise on or diagnose mains gas work, and any assessment we give is limited to oil, heat pump, and plumbing systems only.

When we can't reliably diagnose it remotely

Some faults simply can't be identified with confidence from video and photos alone — intermittent electrical faults, certain unvented cylinder issues, and problems that need pressure or flow testing are common examples. Where that's the case, we'll tell you rather than guess, and explain what an on-site engineer should check.

DIY work — your responsibility

Where we suggest a DIY check or fix, it's because it's something a reasonably competent homeowner can safely attempt — not because we've inspected your system in person. Before carrying out any DIY work:

  • Only attempt something if you're confident, and it doesn't involve mains gas, unvented cylinder pressure components, refrigerant, or electrics beyond basic isolation
  • Isolate the power, water, or fuel supply where instructed, and follow any safety steps we give you
  • Stop immediately and call a qualified engineer if anything looks, sounds, or smells wrong, or if you're not certain what you're doing

Any DIY work you choose to carry out — including any resulting damage to your property, your system, or third-party property — is undertaken at your own risk and on your own decision. We are not on site to supervise, and our assessment is based only on what you've shown and told us. We're not liable for damage, injury, or loss arising from DIY work you decide to carry out, except where that loss results from our own negligence in the advice given based on the information you provided.

Safety — non-negotiable

If at any point you smell gas, suspect a carbon monoxide leak, see fire, or believe there's an immediate danger to health or property — stop immediately. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, or 999 in a fire or medical emergency. Do not wait for a reply from us, and do not attempt DIY work in these circumstances.

By booking and paying for a review, you confirm you've read and accepted this section. If anything here is unclear, ask us before booking rather than after.

Submit your video review

£15 per review. Two quick steps below — upload your video/photos, then pay and confirm your details. We'll reply with your written assessment within a few hours.

Before you start — what's useful to include

— A short video (10–30 seconds) showing the fault happening — the boiler trying to fire, a strange noise, or where water's leaking from

— A clear photo of the data plate — the model and serial number, usually a sticker inside the casing or on the side of the unit

— A photo (or video, if it flashes/cycles) of any fault or error code on the display

— Photos of anything visibly wrong — corrosion, damp, loose pipework, the pressure gauge reading

Step 1 — Upload your video & photos

Tap the button, select or take your video/photos, then tap Copy once they've uploaded.

Step 2 — Pay & submit your details

Pay £15 & submit your review

Paste the link you copied in Step 1 into the "Video/photo link" field during checkout, along with your system type and a quick description of what's happening.
